Digital guitar
music archive
This project is dedicated
to the creation of a digital archive
of music for (and with) the guitar by Italian
composers from various historical periods, in
modern editions, reproduced, revised and
digitized in .pdf format.
The purpose is to make more readily available
a repertoire which is still little known and
difficult to access, or available only in
editions no longer in print, or in a printed
form which often is far from practical as a
performing edition.
The editorial revisions which will be
presented here are all accompanied by a
critical commentary prepared by the editor of
each edition, whose name appears in each
publication (in some cases the revision
process involves aspects such as the musical
notation, dynamic indications, fingerings,
etc).
The main body of this collection, which will
be gradually published in this section of our
website is formed by the personal collection
of the Canadian guitarist and musicologist
Abel Nagytothy-Toth, who willed to the musical
community at large the fruits of a lifetime of
research and an invaluable body of carefully
complied and priceless documents: to him we
offer our most sincere gratitude.
To his valuable contribution many other
contributors have since added their own, each
contribution subject to a careful screening
process under the auspices of the Scientific
Committee (which encourages anyone interested
in contributing to the collection to contact
us).
These works are offered free of any charge to
both students and professional performers
alike with the intent to promote and encourage
the the guitar's standing and repertoire. For
all other intended uses we invite those
interested to contact the responsible editors
of the individual editions. We also extend a
cordial invitation to all those who make use
of this collection to register on our mailing
list Chitarra in Italia in order to
receive information on the progress of this
and other related projects.
The musical editions will be arranged in the
following categories: original compositions,
and transcriptions (each in turn subdivided
into two subcategories: solo works, and
chamber music with guitar). In each category
all entries are set in alphabetical order by
composer’s name, with information on the
editor/transcriber/arranger where applicable.
